Superintendent fails in keeping Ogden kids safe

Editor,

It’s time for the superintendent of Ogden public schools to resign. The mission of Ogden public schools: “Maximizing educational opportunities for all students, in a safe, nurturing environment.”  The superintendent has failed to keep students safe.

First, he has not implemented intruder alerts. Apparently intruder alerts exist, but are not implemented, and this equates to unacceptable, failed leadership.   The incident at Sandy Hook Elementary should not have  been a wake-up call. The distant past of Columbine High School, a recent summer camp shooting in Norway, and the Virginia Tech massacre in which 30 students were gunned down, indicate Ogden public schools should be prepared for intruder alerts. That all schools are not prepared is failed leadership.

Chickens in Ogden will be a disaster

Editor,

I cannot find a single, valid reason to ban backyard chickens in Ogden. That’s because I can actually come up with not one, but many, and here are three: non-compliance, non-compliance, non-compliance.

In considering non-compliance, one need only look at the many non-compliant pet owners in the city, and the resources wasted on enforcing compliance. Issues with too many pets, non-licensed pets, and stray pets run amok in Ogden. And what happened to respecting your fellow neighbors in regards to barking dogs through the night? I cannot begin to tell you the number of times I have been woken in the midst of a deep slumber to a yapping neighborhood dog.

Don't be fooled twice about Ogden's water rates

Editor,

Don't be fooled twice, water rates are on the rise! Forget that Ogden city charges the most expensive rates compared to all nearby cities. Forget that Ogden city is selling water cheaper to other cities than to its residents. Forget that 13,000 households are currently being over-charged for culinary water (If you don't get secondary water, you are in this unlucky group).  Forget that 12,000 households are being under-charged for that same water (If you receive secondary water, you are in this lucky group).
