Founding Fathers should be rolling over in their graves

There are rights that are given to everyone in America no matter their race, gender or standing in society. We make sure that no matter what, our rights are protected by the Constitution and its Amendments.

So how can you justify taking away some of a certain group's rights with the Ogden Trece Injunction? It should go against everything that we supposedly believe in.

Being a Lifeguard: It's harder than it looks

Being a lifeguard is the perfect job, right? Sit in the sun and get a tan. That's all there is to it.

Or at least that is what some people seem to think. But being a lifeguard is so much different than that.

Yes, you sit in the sun and many lifeguards are tan. That tends to happen when you spend hours almost every day sitting outside.

But there is also a lot of training in the job to understand how to save people and to perform first aid, as well as being able to recognize when someone is drowning. And there is quite a bit of stress to being a lifeguard too.

You say habit like it's a bad thing!

Everybody has things that they do that they quickly make a habit out of -- and not all of them are very good. Things like chewing on your fingernails, procrastinating homework, being way too competitive, or even being very unobservant and tripping all the time over nothing.

Habits are formed all the time out of boredom, or nervousness, or to think, or just for plain fun. High school students around the Top of Utah admit to a variety of bad habits.

Personally, I chew my fingernails. I am always being told to stop, but that is only when I'm forced.

Get in the swim with water polo

The anticipation, waiting for it all to break loose and start. You sit there, watching for the signal from the official. The whistle is blown. You push off the wall and go full sprint at your opponents.

The water splashes into your eyes, but you disregard it. All that matters is getting to the other side and hoping your team moves faster than the other to get the ball first after the drop.

This is water polo. It's one of the less recognized high school sports and yet, in my opinion, one of the better.

Website identifying 100 miles of Davis County trails expected

FARMINGTON -- A website identifying more than 100 miles of existing trails in Davis County, stretching from Antelope Island State Park to Layton Commons Park, was expected to be unveiled to Davis County mayors Wednesday night at the Davis Council of Governments meeting.

The hope is to gain from the elected leaders' specific descriptions of the trails offered in their respective communities and add that information to the county's trail website, which is currently in a testing phase, said Scott A. Hess, Davis County planner.

The website will identify only those trails that can be used now, and not proposed trails cities have plans to develop, Hess said.

As changes are made and trails are completed, the website will be upgraded, Hess said.

'Different' is simply different -- not bad

Have you ever noticed those people out there who don't quite fit in? They are too short, too long of hair -- they are just different.

Why is this sometimes looked down on? I mean, being different should be good. It's what makes us all special in our own kind of way. It's just plain bad to not like someone without getting to know them, just because they look different than anybody else.

The school year in Top of Utah schools has its ups and downs including extracurricular activities such as cupcake decorating contests. Kate Searl, Madi Dumas and Jace Dalton (bottom) visit as they eat their school lunch.

Best of times, worst of times

You sit down and pull out your notebook, turning to face the front of class. How could biology get any better? You get to sit next to your best friend and your biology teacher not only makes sense, but also makes things entertaining.

But what happens when the stress sets in? How do you continue to look on the bright side? Although some people look at the new school year positively, other students see some downsides.
