OGDEN -- The Women's Legislative Council of Weber County will hold a Meet the Candidates Night at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the South Ogden Senior Center, 580 39th St.

Candidates for the city council will introduce themselves and address concerns and questions from the audience. Expected to attend are candidates for At large Seat C Rick Safsten, Steve Thompson and Amy Wicks, and South Ogden City Council candidates Michael Jacobazzi, Sallee Orr and Kelly Zaugg.

ROY -- A Roy man was charged with second-degree felony automobile homicide Wednesday stemming from a June crash that killed a woman in his car.

OGDEN -- The Rotary Club of Ogden is holding a "Meet the Ogden Mayoral Candidates Luncheon" at noon Wednesday at the Marriott in Ogden.

Horse show to help injured woman

LAYTON -- A benefit horse show and activities will be held Oct. 29 at Saltaire Farm to benefit Colleen Cobia, who was paralyzed from the waist down in a horse accident.

A horse show begins at 8 a.m. and continues through the day. Numerous other activities are planned, including a petting zoo, pony rides, dog races, silent auction and antique car show. The goal is to raise enough money to make the Cobias' home wheelchair-accessible.

Bowlers to help Special Olympics

KAYSVILLE -- Special Olympics Utah will hold its first Hallow-bowlooza at 9 a.m. Oct. 29 at Boondocks Fun Center, 525 S. Deseret Drive.

In the fundraiser, four-person bowling teams will be teamed with a Special Olympics athlete. Prizes will be awarded for high individual score, high team score, best individual costume and best team costume.

Author, illustrator to visit school

WASHINGTON TERRACE -- The "Night of Discovery" at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Washington Terrace Elementary School, 20 E. 4600 South, opposite the Terrace Playhouse, will feature talks by Caralyn and Mark Buehner, author and illustrator of books on the New York Times bestseller lists.

The public is invited to attend their signing of "Snowmen at Night" from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

‘Spook-Tacular’ set for Saturday in Bountiful

BOUNTIFUL — A Halloween activity is scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at South Davis Recreation Center.

The “Spook-Tacular” will include a canoe ride through a haunted swamp, a walk through the haunted locker room, carnival games, a trick-or-treat alley, a goblin grub and spooky crafts.

Each activity requires tickets, and each ticket is 50 cents.

Ogden Rotary Club has new president

OGDEN -- The Rotary Club of Ogden has elected Brent Parkin as president for the 2011-12 Rotary year.

Parkin has been a member of Rotary International for nearly 20 years and has served in all levels of the organization. He is the senior general manager for Newgate Mall and has worked for GGP in a variety of positions in the shopping center industry for over 23 years.

Layton police chief to help start Blue Alert program

SANDY -- Layton Police Chief Terry Keefe will take part in the launching of the Blue Alert program on Monday at Salt Lake Community College.

Blue Alerts will be used to warn the public about violent criminals who kill or seriously injure a law enforcement officer. The state will also change the name of the advisory used to notify the public for endangered missing persons cases.

Mayoral debate today at Ogden High School

OGDEN — The Advanced Placement government class at Ogden High School is sponsoring a mayoral debate between candidates Mike Caldwell and Brandon Stephenson from noon to 1 p.m. today in the school auditorium.

Emergency prep event planned
