MLS adding new stadiums, 6 in last 2 years

HOUSTON -- Houston Dynamo president Chris Canetti sat in the highest row of empty BBVA Compass Stadium, gazed west at the city skyline and made a bold prediction.

"Some people don't agree with me," Canetti said, "but I think Major League Soccer, in time, and I don't know when that is, will become the second-most popular league in this country. I think it can pass baseball, I think it can pass the NBA."

Jewish school back in Texas tourney semifinals

HOUSTON -- Organizers of a Texas state basketball tournament relented Thursday and agreed to reschedule a semifinal game involving an Orthodox Jewish school after parents filed a lawsuit over the original game time, which conflicted with the Sabbath.

Longhorn Network has other schools scrambling

HOUSTON -- Last month, officials with the University of Texas and ESPN Inc. trumpeted their 20-year, $300 million deal to create a 24-hour television network that will broadcast Longhorns sports.

"We're going to cover (Texas) football like it's never been covered before," said Burke Magnus, senior vice president of college sports programming for ESPN.

George Bodenheimer, president of ESPN Inc. and ABC Sports, called the network "a testament to the school's remarkable, tradition-rich success and widespread, devoted fan base."

Millsap carries Utah to OT win in Houston

HOUSTON  -- Paul Millsap scored 12 of his 27 points in overtime and the Utah Jazz rallied from another double-digit deficit in a 103-99 win over the slumping Houston Rockets on Saturday night.

Al Jefferson had 24 points and 13 rebounds and C.J. Miles added 16 points for the Jazz, who have come back to win 12 times this season after trailing by at least 10 points. Deron Williams went 5 for 16 from the field but dished out 15 assists.

Luis Scola had 24 points and 10 rebounds and Kevin Martin scored 20 for the Rockets, who have lost five in a row.

HOUSTON -- The Houston Rockets are leaving every option open on the eve of the NBA draft.

The Rockets have the 14th overall pick after going 42-40 last season, missing the playoffs for just the second time since 2003. They're listening to all offers and owner Leslie Alexander said Wednesday the scenarios are constantly evolving.

Yao's foot injury not healed

The Associated PressHOUSTON -- Yao Ming's broken foot is not healed and the Houston Rockets say the All-Star center is out indefinitely.Yao suffered a hairline fracture in his left foot in the Rockets' second-round playoff loss to the Lakers on May 8. The team initially said Yao would miss eight to 12 weeks, but team doctor Tom Clanton examined Yao's foot in Houston on Wednesday and said the injury has not responded to the treatment program.A bone scan conducted Wednesday night revealed the fracture had not healed. The team now says no timeline is set for Yao's return to basketball activities, though Clanton said Yao is experiencing no pain in his foot.
