Brendan Morrison, newest Blackhawk, looking forward to a Stanley Cup run

EDMONTON, Alberta -- Brendan Morrison was just coming back from fishing off Vancouver Island, British Columbia, during the All-Star break when he got the call informing him he was headed to the Blackhawks.

A couple of days later Morrison caught up with his new teammates in Vancouver, never getting a chance to say goodbye to his old ones on the Flames. He got that opportunity Friday night when the Hawks visited Calgary

Blackhawks' Frolik waiting for goals to come

DENVER -- Michael Frolik is one-third of what has been the Chicago Blackhawks' most consistent forward line, but the winger doesn't have the offensive numbers to show for it.

Entering Thursday night's game here against the Avalanche, Frolik had two assists in the first five games while skating with Bryan Bickell and Dave Bolland.

New Blackhawk Mayers nomadic in quest for Stanley Cup

CHICAGO -- Sitting in the Blackhawks' dressing room at the United Center, Jamal Mayers scanned the faceplates adoring the stalls of his fifth set of new teammates in the last five seasons and pondered the toll his quest for a Stanley Cup is taking on his family life.

The desire to hoist the trophy has made the veteran forward a bit of a hockey nomad in the twilight of his career with stops in St. Louis, Toronto, Calgary and San Jose before he signed a one-year deal to join the Blackhawks this season. Mayers again uprooted his family, consisting of his wife, Natalie, and two young daughters, 5-year-old Langley and 3-year-old Harper.

"I've moved my family (often) with one singular objective -- to win the Stanley Cup," Mayers, 37 in October, told the Tribune. "I used to joke with my wife because we were in St. Louis for 12 years that we were going to make it up in the last six years. Unfortunately, that's holding true.

Kane eventually got championship puck

CHICAGO -- Patrick Kane finally had in his hands the puck that had been used to score the game-winning goal and capture a championship.

No, not that puck.

Photos provide clues to missing Stanley Cup puck

CHICAGO -- A year after Patrick Kane fired a shot into the goal in overtime to give the Blackhawks their first Stanley Cup championship since 1961, the game-winning puck is still missing.

The rubber disc hasn't been found since it was dug out of the net while the Blackhawks celebrated their victory over the Philadelphia Flyers at the other end of the ice. An auction house says the sports collectible is worth six figures, at least, and a Chicago sports collector is offering a $50,000 reward for its return.

Images from the game showed veteran linesman Steve Miller looking at the puck in the moments after Kane's goal, but he has adamantly denied that he touched it.

It's simple: Canucks' Luongo can't stop what he can't see

For a time, it appeared the Blackhawks would return home after two games in Vancouver not only without a victory, but also without scoring a goal.

Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo had thwarted the Stanley Cup champions at every turn and the once-potent Hawks offense suddenly displayed the firepower of a squirt gun. Finally, after 94 minutes, 50 seconds of Western Conference quarterfinals series futility, rookie Ben Smith put the Hawks on the board Friday night late in the second period of Game 2 at Rogers Arena. A short time later, Viktor Stalberg beat Luongo and then Smith did it again. Suddenly, some gaps in Luongo's gold-medal-plated armor were exposed.

With Blackhawks finally at full strength, they have opportunity to solidify playoff position

CHICAGO -- It's amazing how quickly time flies when you're not having as much fun as last season.

Toews' leadership skills put to the test

CHICAGO -- These are trying times for Jonathan Toews and the Chicago Blackhawks.

Blackhawks can't change a losing script

CHICAGO -- The losses continue to mount for the Blackhawks, as are questions about what exactly is wrong with the reigning Stanley Cup champions.

The Hawks dropped their fourth consecutive game at the United Center on Wednesday night when they fell, 2-1, to the previously struggling Coyotes.

Tallon thinks coaches should be able to challenge a goal-related call

CHICAGO -- Picture this: It's late in a heated Blackhawks-Red Wings game when goaltender Marty Turco is bumped by a Detroit player in the crease as the puck sails into the net. As the Wings celebrate, the Hawks scream at officials claiming interference.

Duncan's 'toothsplosion' is the talk of the town in Chicago

CHICAGO -- Chicago hockey fans can now be split into two distinct groups: Those who saw Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith's puck-to-the-mouth toothsplosion and felt nauseous, and those who didn't bat an eye when the veteran player skated back on the ice seven teeth lighter.

Blackhawks' Keith in line for NHL hardware

CHICAGO -- With their focus directed on winning the Stanley Cup, the Chicago Blackhawks aren't putting much thought into individual honors.

Vancouver putting on its best face for Olympics

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- For the last decade, Luben Banchev has sold hot dogs from a small cart outside the Vancouver Art Museum. Three years ago the city unveiled a massive digital clock nearby that since has been counting down the days, minutes and seconds until the Opening Ceremony for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
