Britain up in arms, rest of world says little

LONDON -- For two days, Britain has been up in arms over Sepp Blatter.

Senior government officials, players, coaches and newspapers have called for the FIFA president to resign as the head of world football's governing body, and coverage of his comments about racism in the game has been nearly around the clock on television.

U.S. rolling again in softball at Pan American Games

GUADALAJARA, Mexico -- The defending softball champions from the United States are on another roll at the Pan American Games.

The U.S. women, who have won the last six gold medals in softball at the games, are 6-0 so far in Guadalajara and have outscored their opponents 46-6. They beat Canada 12-5 Thursday and close out the preliminaries against Argentina on Friday.

Djokovic on a roll since cutting out bread, pasta

LONDON -- Ever since eliminating pizza from his diet, Novak Djokovic has been on a roll.

Djokovic has been boasting all season about how he has more energy on the tennis court since starting a gluten-free diet, cutting out pizza and bread from his daily life. But the top-ranked Serb has been reluctant to discuss his new regimen in any detail, preferring to let his game do the talking.

Federer beats Djokovic in French Open semifinals

PARIS -- No go, Djoko. It's Roger vs. Rafa in the French Open final again.

Novak Djokovic's perfect season and 43-match winning streak were ended by Roger Federer in the semifinals at Roland Garros. The 16-time Grand Slam champion beat the second-seeded Serb 7-6 (5), 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (5) Friday and will face Rafael Nadal in the final for the fourth time in six years.

"I've trained a lot during my whole life for these kinds of matches," Federer said. "There was an enormous amount of pressure on Novak and he really played well."

Five-time champion Nadal, who is one victory away from equaling Bjorn Borg's record of six French Open titles, defeated Andy Murray 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 earlier on Court Philippe Chatrier to improve his record at Roland Garros to 44-1.

On Sunday, Nadal will try to beat Federer for the sixth time in eight Grand Slam finals.

Organizers hope 2 pins equals more fun in golf

LONDON -- Powerplay Golf is giving a very old sport a couple of new twists.

Hoping to change the face of a sport often considered to be staid and boring, organizers of the three-event series are looking to bring in new fans by offering a faster pace and more excitement with two pins per green and only nine holes in a round.

The world's fastest man turned 24 over the weekend and then signed a three-year contract extension with German apparel company Puma on Tuesday that is said to be the biggest for a track and field athlete.
