Victims of crimes include families and friends

Editor,

“Victims of crime” are just that; persons who are victimized, hurt and sometimes killed. Yes, everyone suffers the consequences of some crime. Even the perpetrator has innocent family and friends. Everyone happens to be a victim of all crimes, whether the person who committed the crime is, or was a nice man or nice woman.

Sad, angry people seem to have no goals

Editor,

As a resident and a very concerned mother and grandmother, I am afraid for my sons and grandkids. Everyday they are all in school or elsewhere——too many places and areas to even mention. People are people. Add what human nature is, and life is life. We all have had unpleasant encounters and an unhappy person disrespects us. Unfortunately, some of those unhappy people turn out to be some we know. There is no excuse for any human being to disrespect or violate anyone else’s peace of mind

Cops' promise to protect and serve seems to fade

Editor,

As a law-abiding citizen, and with respect and admiration to our police departments, why in the world do officers serve warrants or whatever, in the early a.m.?

Too many incidents have occurred, resulting in injuries and unfortunate deaths. Now, there’s a traumatized family, yet another mistake? Sometime these mistakes last a lifetime.

Stop excessive acts of violence

Editor,

Rgarding the cop's punching the woman (Apr. 25, "Fired trooper on Ogden force"), under no condition should an officer of the law or any other man, punch a woman. What did that woman do to deserve a punch-out to her face? Was she punching him or threatening his life? What kind of excessive action is this?

Some offenders are never 'rehabilitated'

Editor,

Offenders rehabilitated? It's so easy to say after their having been incarcerated. It's only because these offenders were caught. Of course, they claim to be rehabilitated. We cannot keep serial offenders behind bars. In some case, forever. Yet, they claim to have changed. The reality is, lives did change--the lives of all of their victims and family.

Missing parents 'reap what they sow'

Editor,

Regarding the Feb. 1 letter, "How did bomb suspects get to Denver?" Indeed, where are the parents? These would-be bombers of Roy High are just one sad example of missing parents. Dads have gone to work to provide, only they lack communication with theirs sons and daughters. In some cases, they have gone to keep partying instead of parenting in every fatherly way.

Mothers, probably are at work as well. Unfortunately, also they also leave to go find themselves. Maybe they got lost for some sad reason. It's all a sad reality of bad choices, with long-lasting consequences.

War on drugs continues to create casualties

Editor,

Profound condolences for all the officers and their families recently suffering a loss. Their lives are so sadly disrupted by such an ongoing problem, this endless drug war. So many casualties of a war with no end in sight. It's a sad reality for all concerned.

With all respect and appreciation for our police and all serving the law, there must be a way to serve a warrant to persons of suspicion.

Criminals should be charged 'as seen'

Regarding the July 20 news story, "Real Time Crime Center debuts in Ogden": This keeps an eye on trouble on Ogden's criminals. It's rather sci-fi and futuristic to say the least. Hopefully, this will be more than just another way of intimating the local lawbreakers. Maybe less taxpayer dollars will be saved for Ogden's improvements.
