Utah pols right to put brakes on health care

Editor

So much to say and so little time. First, concerning the Feb, 8, Our view editorial, “Herbert plays tag with health care” it is stated: “Herbert ran into a legislative leadership that openly scorns the new health care law and wants nothing to do it with. Such stubborn behavior may satisfy political biases, but it accomplishes nothing.”

The editorial says it is the law and we ought to work with the feds. Well, why should we pay obeisance to a law that was unlawfully forced down our throats? I say our legislators are doing what the people want when they put the brakes on such crap that the feds would feed us.

We need more medical schools, lower tuition

Editor,

Concerning doctor’s pay, a couple of things that would help: First, we need tort reform to get lawyers off the doctors backs (there are way too many lawyers with little to do). Second, we need more medical schools to produce more doctors. Third, tuition costs (for all students) need to be based in reality, and not allowed to rise, simply because the government gives generous loans.

The cause of global warming is the sun

On August 26 the Examiner featured a Viewpoint by Michael Stafford regarding Jon Huntsman coming "out of the closet". He quoted him as saying that "I...trust scientists on global warming." It is interesting to note that Mr. Huntsman didn't say which scientists he trusts, for there are many scientists with very strong credentials who don't agree with Mr. Stafford's view that there is a serious and deadly problem with climate change and that man-made, CO2-belching technology and industry is the cause of it.

Reader finds bus cheaper than Frontrunner

On Friday I had an interesting experience riding the UTA transportation system from Sunset to West Jordan. I was planning to take bus #470 to the Clearfield station and buy a round-trip ticket on the Frontrunner train to significantly shorten my trip time from Sunset to West Jordan. I figured it would be much faster to use Frontrunner than riding the much-slower bus. After all, didn't Frontrunner have a top speed of 79 mph? The bus seems like such a slowpoke.
