New Ogden Urban Trail offers escape from city life

Picking just one trail to write about each month is no easy feat considering all of Ogden’s wonderful options. A few candidates for January’s edition were Malan’s Peak — an epic winter-time adventure with huge elevation gain and breathtaking views — or perhaps Jump-Off Canyon or Hidden Valley. Both are local gems.

However, rumblings of a new, relatively unknown trail emerged as the go-to topic for the monthly Take-A-Hike article.

On Ogden’s scenic, historic Indian Trail

Ogden spoils outdoor enthusiasts with a plethora of world-class hiking trails that vary in landscape, difficulty and technical challenge. But if you find yourself in a conversation with a fellow hiker, Indian Trail is sure to come up for its aesthetic and historical value.

Native Americans used sections of this elevated path to avoid Ogden Canyon’s high spring waters, and although the Ogden River isn’t a challenge these days, modern folk still enjoy Indian Trail for its incredible diversity: Conifer forests, cold-water creeks, mountain bowls, the fresh aroma of timber pines and sagebrush and the stunning views.
