Editor,A University of Utah professor claimed that "natural" behavior is not deviant behavior (March 26 guest commentary, "Homosexuality is biologically natural, not deviant." If animals do it then it must be acceptable behavior for humans. Animals do lots of natural things. Animals do not wear clothing, neither do primitive savages, but in civilized society there are laws to prevent people from acting like animals. Animals defecate where ever they are but there are laws to prevent humans from doing that because it would be deviant behavior. There are even laws which require humans to control where their animals defecate. Housebreaking an animal is not natural, but is required in civilized society. Some other "natural" animal behaviors include; copulating in public, rape, incest, pedophilia, theft, assault, biting, and killing. All of these are natural, animals do them all the time but any of these are deviant behavior for civilized humans that's why there are laws against such behaviors. Why should we legitimize this one deviant behavior but not the others?
