Sorry commissioners Bell, Gibson, SE just tells your stories

Don Porter, Standard-Examiner contributor

I began studying journalism in 1981 at Utah State University. I spent the following 27 years as a reporter and/or editor in the business -- about 24 years of it at this newspaper. One thing you could always count on: At any given time, some politician in the Top of Utah would tattoo "kick me" on his or her forehead, and the Standard-Examiner would...

Letterman cranky, sour, mean - and the late-night master

Contributed, Don Porter
Apr 9 2014 - 9:37am

When David Letterman announced his impending retirement from the "Late Show" last week, it wasn't much of a surprise. And since there's no reason to...

Spending time with some mythical beings

As a general rule, I admire people who don't give up. Like Democrats in Utah."What are Democrats?" you ask. "And where might I see one?"It's true, young Skywalker, they do exist. Don Porter
Mar 9 2014 - 9:03am

Well, MOST of my family -- when you start listing those way out on the skinny branches of blood relationship, the love gets a little thinner.Another thing I'm sure about is the comfort I feel at my church. It's almost always a friendly place. Sure, once in a while someone...
