(UNEDITED) Susan Van Hooser is able to assume the responsibilities of mayor without any down time because she deals with city problems daily as an involved council member. She has the knowledge and experience needed. She is a strong leader successfully holding leadership positions in numerous organizations including Council Vice Chair. She is conscientious in her responsibilities to the citizens of Ogden, researching the impact of new city ordinances on citizens. She will work diligently to create a feeling of unity in Ogden.

It has been my pleasure and honor to serve you as your representative on the Ogden City Council. My doctor advised me not to seek re-election. I do however, still hold your interests close to my heart and offer my observations and some advice on the most important issues facing Ogden.

Why we voted to override the mayor's veto

With five members of the Ogden City Council voting to override Mayor Matthew Godfrey's veto of three line items of the FY2010 budget, we would like to explain the rationale for the override. Lots of people have been asking "why?"

First of all, the mayor has been using words like "unconstitutional," "illegal" and "unlawful" to describe the council's decisions. All of these claims would need to be sorted out in a court of law. We believe that we were well within the boundaries of state law when we set policy for the city. And for the record, we have no immediate plans to take the mayor to court.
