Chinese officials open up about Beijing's horrendous air pollution

BEIJING -- One of Beijing's worst rounds of air pollution kept schoolchildren indoors and sent coughing residents to hospitals Monday, but this time something was different about the murky haze: the government's transparency in talking about it.

Sensational China murder trial to end with guilty verdict

HEFEI, China — The wife of disgraced Chinese politician Bo Xilai lured a British businessman to a hotel in the southwestern mega-city of Chongqing, where she got him drunk and poisoned him, testimony revealed Thursday in one of China’s highest-profile murder trials.

Deal struck on Chinese activist

BEIJING  -- The U.S. and China forged the outlines of a deal Friday to end a diplomatic standoff over legal activist Chen Guangcheng that would let him travel to the U.S. with his family for a university fellowship.

XIANGNING, China -- Rescuers paddled the rafts with their hands in the dark, flooded mine shaft, letting out air so the inflatable vessels could squeeze through tight passages. From deep in the tunnel came the call: "Can you get me out of here?"
