Air Force Gallery Showcase: Limit of three entries per person in the following categories: Photography or Artist-Craftsman

Entries must be submitted on a CD to the Arts and Crafts Center, Building 534.

They must be in a JPEG format, size 5" x 7", no larger than 450 pixels at the longest end.

Entries will be taken beginning Aug. 6 through Sept. 10.

Summer still going on strong at Youth Center

Drop in activities, Aug. 24 , 26 and 31, 4 p.m. to 6 p.,m. as World War II Games are the theme -- with no pre-enrollment necessary.

Teen Time, Aug. 23-26, and Aug. 30-31, 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. -- during these times the Youth Center is open for teens only.

Geocaching, Aug. 1-6, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., $40 -- join the Youth Center as the group searches the Wasatch Front looking for hidden treasure using GPS.

End of summer party at the library

Summer Reading Program End of Event Party - Tuesday Aug. 3 at 2 p.m. at Centennial Park.

The library will close out its Summer Reading program this year with a Fun in the Sun party. Children who participated in the program this year are invited to come out for water games, prizes and refreshments.

Story Hour, Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. -- stories, crafts and activities for preschoolers.

Fitness Center plans family activities and competitive events

Aug. 3, 5, 11, 18 and 25 -- Active Families for a Fit Future: Bring out the family or fun filled fitness activities including softball clinic, rock climbing, hiking, canoeing and more.Punch cards with the activities are available at the Warrior Health and Fitness Center. The families with the most punches from activities will be put in for a drawing for a prize. Untangle the holidays with class at AFRC

Untangle the Holidays, Aug. 4, noon to 1 p.m. at the Airman and Family Readiness Center. Get a jump start on your holidays. Christmas shopping probably isn't among one of your top five financial goals, however chances are you spend more on Christmas presents than you do saving to reach any other goal. Join the group as the focus is on untangling the holidays.

The class will discuss ways to organize your holiday and explore ideas for stretching your budget, such as alternative gifts, recycling and shopping seasonally.

Hill club hosts first airsoft event

On July 31 the Hill Airsoft and Paintbull Club will host the very first airsoft tournament on base. The competition will take place at the Woodsball Field, which is located behind the BORTA on Perimeter Road.

Registration for the event will begin at 2 p.m. and the event will start at 4 p.m. Cost is free and participants are eligible to win prizes in a raffle. Participants must bring their own equipment and must adhere to the safety and tournament rules provided by the club.

Commissary reset

The Commissary will close at 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 25, and remain closed through Tuesday, July 27 for a major store reset. The store will re-open Wednesday, July 29 at 9 a.m.

July 24-25 annual hot water outage

The annual steam outage will be Saturday, July 24, Sunday, July 25, meaning there will be no hot water in several buildings. The outage will be from midnight to midnight. The facilities to be affected include:

Buildings 244, 245, 250, 252, 345, 348, 349, 350, 351, 357, 358, 361, 363, 364, 430, 441, 445, 450, 460, 475, 517, 518, 519, 520, 521, 523, 525 and 534.

The annual steam outage allows for repairs to the Steam Plant and Building 519 distribution system.

AFRC closure to limit service

The Airman and Family Readiness Center will provide limited service July 28-30 due to staff training. Only emergency situations will be accepted during that time.

The Airmen's Attic will be open during its normal hours. The pre-deployment briefing scheduled for July 28 has been rescheduled for July 26 at 8:30 a.m. Reintegration briefings will remain the same.

Lane restrictions on Wardleigh Road

Continuing through Aug. 15 Wardleigh Road will experience lane restrictions to allow manhole access for workers.

One eastbound lane will close from Building 849 to Building 847 and one northbound lane at Building 1205.

The lane will be closed about 500 feet between manholes. The closure is needed to ensure the safety of workers.

Jackson Hole white water rafting trips available through Outdoor Rec

There are still slots available for an Aug. 20-22 trip to Jackson Hole to do some white water rafting.

If you haven't been to Jackson Hole for a glimpse of the Grand Tetons you are really missing a fantastic opportunity, and the rafting on the Snake River is some of the most scenic in the world.

AETC Special Duty Teams to visit base for recruitment

Have you ever been interested in becoming an Air Force Recruiter, Military Training Instructor (MTI), Military Training Leader (MTL), or Professional Military Education (PME) instructor? If so, the Aerospace and Education Training Command Special Duty Team is offering the opportunity you have been seeking and will host a Special Duty briefing on Aug. 3, 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m., Building 385 (ALS), in the auditorium. There are few jobs in the Air Force more challenging, satisfying, and rewarding than that of an Air Force Special Duty.

Family Overnight Campout July 30

The third annual Family Overnight Campout will be held July 30.

Set up your tent at Centennial Park at 5 p.m. or Outdoor Recreation has tents available to rent to assemble at the park. For more information about the tents, call Outdoor Recreation at (801) 777-2225.

Other activities will include a nature walk, the animated film, "Brother Bear," on a big screen in the park, popcorn, a bonfire, hot dogs and chips, s'mores and ghost stories.

Club Hill to feature its Buffalo Brewfest Aug. 27

Join in the fun as Club Hill celebrates micro brews at the Buffalo Brewfest, Aug. 27, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A $10 ticket includes a signature sample glass and 10 sample tickets.

Tickets go on sale Monday, Aug. 2 (must be 18 years or older).

Prize drawings throughout the event will include a grand prize of three days, two nights at the Green Valley Ranch Resort, Las Vegas (includes up to $300 for airfare and a free rental car).

Entertainment will be provided by the Codi Jordan Band and Roby Kap of the Kap Brothers Band.
