KISSIMMEE, Fla. — In the shadows of Walt Disney World, just south of Orlando, a midsize town once the domain of cowboy cattle ranchers and citrus growers has reached the national stage of politics.
When President Barack Obama made his first post-convention stop to this all-important swing state, he rallied 3,000 supporters at the Kissimmee Civic Center in northern Osceola County, home to a burgeoning Puerto Rican population that helped propel him to a Florida victory in 2008.
