Prep football: Bears hold off Judge with stand

GARLAND -- The Bear River Bears opened Region 11 play with a huge 14-7 victory over the Judge Memorial Bulldogs Friday night, and it made the fans extra happy as it was the Bears' homecoming game.

Prep football: Bears slip past Bees in hard-fought win

GARLAND -- On a warm Friday night at Bear Field, the Golden Spike game was played, and the Bear River Bears and Box Elder Bees battled valiantly to the end, as both teams were not going to give in.

Prep football: Bees' offense shines against Grizzlies

BRIGHAM CITY -- The Box Elder Bees came into Friday nights game wanting to show they can play with anybody, and they did so with a huge win over the Copper Hills Grizzlies 47-22. The rain could not even slow the Bees down as they played well on all sides of the ball.

Grizzlies rough up Bears

GARLAND -- In a battle of two schools with similar mascots and storied spors histories, it was the Logan Grizzlies that flexed their muscle to beat the Bear River Bears 31-6 in theif football season opener Friday night.

Mustangs pull away from Lakers

HYRUM -- The opening night of Region 5 play turned out to be a great night to be a Mustangs fan.The Mountain Crest Mustangs earned a great win in a hard-fought battle with the Lakers from Bonneville High School, 16-6, on homecoming night.The game matched two of the top teams from the region, and both played like they deserved to be on top at the end of the night.

Bees down Bear River at home

BRIGHAM CITY -- There are not many things better to do on a Friday night than to watch a rivalry football game in a packed stadium with screaming fans, and that is exactly what took place as the Box Elder Bees hosted the Bear River Bears.
The Bees came away with a hard fought 17-14 victory over their neighbors from the north.
"Our team played as hard as they could tonight and I feel very good about the effort of my players," first-year coach Robbie Gunter said. "Defensive coordinator Mike Robinson had a great game plan and our defense did a great job of executing it."

Sky View edges Fremont in overtime

LOGAN -- The Fremont Silverwolves went up to Romney Stadium to avenge last year's loss to Sky View Bobcats. The Silver Wolves took extra time to find the outcome but came up short in overtime with Sky View's winning on a 32-yard field goal by kicker Brock Warren.
Both teams offenses moved the ball efficiently up and down the field throughout the game, but it took some timely defensive stops on both sides of the ball to keep the game close.
In the end it was the Bobcats' defense that stepped up to secure the victory.
