Bank warns of new scam involving mass emails, calls and text messages

OGDEN -- A new twist on a phishing scam has Wells Fargo officials concerned for their customers.

The scam is nothing new, said Mark Chapman, spokesman for Utah Wells Fargo, but it is the first time scammers have attempted to use text messaging to gain account information.

UDOT: Statewide traffic fatalities drop

OGDEN -- Fewer people have died on Utah roads so far this year compared to 2010.

According to the Utah Department of Transportation, between January and June 2011, 91 fatalities have occurred statewide. During the same time period last year, 96 fatalities were reported statewide.

Since June, 12 more fatalities have been recorded statewide, bringing the total to 103 as of Wednesday.

Military compass wasn't hazardous in West Haven

Harrisville home destroyed in blaze

HARRISVILLE — Firefighters from two agencies spent Tuesday afternoon battling a stubborn, smoky, house fire that shut down Washington Boulevard for more than three hours.

No one was injured in the fire, but one of two houses on the lot at 683 N. Washington Blvd. was destroyed. The second, behind the first, sustained some outside damage, but Northview Fire Chief Lynn Froerer said it is probably still habitable.

Ogden area sees new fire restrictions

OGDEN -- Fire restrictions have been set in Ogden and neighboring cities after the wet spring encouraged brush to grow bigger than normal and now the summer heat is drying it all out.

OGDEN -- Three people were recognized Friday by Mayor Matthew Godfrey for their help in saving the lives of two children caught in the basement of a home that was on fire several weeks ago.

Man arrested for kidnapping his ex

OGDEN -- An Ogden man was arrested after police say he held his ex-girlfriend against her will in her apartment Tuesday night.

Keyubba Holliday, 37, was booked into Weber County Jail on Wednesday on suspicion of aggravated kidnapping, theft and possession of a firearm by a restricted person.

Lt. Eric Young said the victim was at her apartment on Polk Avenue just before noon Tuesday when Holliday, her ex-boyfriend, came to the door to offer her food.

Ogden gets $70,000 grant for migratory bird program

OGDEN -- Ogden is among 10 cities chosen to receive funding as part of the Urban Conservation Treaty for Migratory Birds grant program, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced Wednesday.

Tremonton police seek two robbers

TREMONTON -- Police are looking for two men they say robbed a local grocery store around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday and assaulted an information technology employee.

Detective Brian Crockett said the employee was at Ridley's Market, 74 S. 100 East, when he encountered two men who were attempting to burglarize the store.

"He was already in the store, (at the time of the robbery,)" Crockett said. "He kind of stumbled into them."

EASY gets tough on selling minors alcohol

OGDEN -- Weber County sheriff's deputies have been cracking down on what they say is a common problem in Weber County -- stores selling alcohol to minors.

Officials began executing their EASY -- Eliminating Alcohol Sales to Youth -- program in May 2010. They spend one day every few months going to 26 convenience and grocery stores armed with cash and underage kids who attempt to buy beer from cashiers.

Sgt. Brandon Toll said the under-21 youths come from the Explorer Program, in which high school and college-age students get experience volunteering with the sheriff's office while deciding if a career in law enforcement might be of interest to them.

Suspect arrested for aggravated robbery

OGDEN -- A 38-year-old man was arrested after police say he injured a man by biting his pinkie finger while trying to steal a truck.

Johnnie Delgado was booked into the Weber County Jail on suspicion of drinking in public, aggravated robbery and burglary of a vehicle.

RIVERDALE — A 40-year-old man is being evaluated at a local hospital after he threatened to jump off the Riverdale overpass Thursday, causing Interstate 15 to close for several hours.
