WEST

No. 3 CONNECTICUT (28-9) vs. No. 2 SAN DIEGO STATE (34-2), 7:15 p.m., CBS.

Coaches: Jim Calhoun (603-230 in 25th season at UConn) and Steve Fisher (227-151 in 12th year at San Diego State).

Lindsay: NCAA bracket from A to Z

Filling out an NCAA Tournament bracket is more than a bit daunting. So let's start at the top:

-- A: is for the Atlantic Coast Conference, owners of the last two titles -- Duke and North Carolina. This championship streak ends as the Blue Devils don't have enough athleticism or the Tar Heels enough experience.

-- B: is for the Big Ten, which has not produced an NCAA Tournament winner since Michigan State 11 years ago, the league's only champ since 1989. No. 1 overall seed Ohio State has a real shot at snapping that skid.

Lindsay: Where were tweets on Woodson, Driver?

A quick three-and-out of NFL thoughts now that the league goes on hiatus until ... who knows?

-- Lost in the euphoria of the Packers' rousing win over Pittsburgh was how several Green Bay players left Super Bowl XLV with injuries -- most notably cornerback Charles Woodson and receiver Donald Driver -- and did not return to the game. You might recall the same thing happened to Jay Cutler, quarterback of the Chicago Bears in the NFC title game back on Jan. 23. Before anyone could even wonder how badly hurt he was, a flood of players -- including Jacksonville's Maurice Jones-Drew, Arizona's Darnell Dockett and others -- had tweeted in their thoughts questioning everything from Cutler's injury to his leadership skills to his choice in after-dinner beverage.

Lindsay: Show patience or give 'Dirty Quarter Dozen' a shot

Halloween is Sunday and around college football that means it starts to get really scary for coaches.

Minnesota already kicked off the hunting season last week booting overmatched Tim Brewster (15-30 in three-plus seasons in his only experience as a head coach) promoting assistant-former UNLV coach Jeff Horton as an interim.

Lindsay: Bowl Championship Series presents more college football BCS

When college football's powers-that-be cooked up the Bowl Championship Series 12 years ago, days like Sunday were supposed to be like Christmas morning for college football fans.

Lindsay: Mid-term grades around college football

It's mid-term grade time around college football. And unlike that nice sociology professor, we don't grade on a curve.

Pyror grabs lead in Scripps Heisman Poll

At the midpoint of the college football season, the Heisman Trophy race is at a crossroads.

This week's Scripps Howard News Service Heisman Trophy Poll shows exactly that with Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor the new leader, bumping Michigan QB Denard Robinson, who had led the previous four polls this season.

Lindsay: Separating college football fact from opinion

An early October trip around college football shows some interesting facts with a dash of opinion.

-- Fact: thanks to a 52-31 win over Stanford, Oregon jumped to No. 3 in both the Associated Press and Coaches polls this week.

Denard Robinson grabs lead in first SHNS Heisman Poll

Could Heisman Trophy history be repeating itself this season? Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson sure hopes so.

Nicknamed "Shoelace" for his penchant to play with his shoes untied, Robinson is the leader in the first Scripps Howard Heisman Trophy poll of the season, grabbing nine of 10 first-place votes. Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore is a distant second with Ohio State QB Terrelle Pryor third.

Arizona winning spring-training battles

In baseball, ties are generally frowned upon (except in the 2002 All-Star Game). But when it comes to the billion-dollar spring-training industry, a tie sounds just fine to the folks in Arizona.
