Caution: Big-name college football transfers can backfire

For the second season in a row, the high-profile business of transferring quarterbacks has reshaped the national rankings.

Now another quarterback-for-hire enters the market, Texas passer Garrett Gilbert. Teams have been lining up to recruit the former Texas starter ever since Longhorns coach Mack Brown benched Gilbert in favor of sophomore Chase McCoy.

Big Three provided plenty of reality TV

"Come on, how often do we have to hear about the LeBron James reality show and what he is or isn't doing?"

-- Rick Carlisle, coach of the Dallas Mavericks, after defeating the Heat in the 2011 NBA Finals

The Heat are focusing on getting on a positive roll as the playoffs are fast approaching

MIAMI -- LeBron James said this about an hour before Wednesday's loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder:

"The way we're playing right now, we'd love to start (the playoffs) right now, but we got another month to continue to get better, continue to hone our skills and work out some of the things that may be going on.

"We're ready. I know I'm ready, but I'm not going to take for granted this last month."

Heat closer to reaching potential, but will it be enough?

MIAMI -- Ninety-seven days.

Thirty-three wins.

Fourteen losses.

James adapting to boos

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The boos have affected LeBron James.

Heat finally silences a winning team: all that Jazz

SALT LAKE CITY -- The Miami Heat got its revenge.

Miami entered Wednesday's game against the Jazz at EnergySolutions Arena intent on displaying its new form against a team that embarrassed it at home in early November. In that infamous game, the Heat blew a 19-point first half lead and lost in overtime. On Tuesday, Dwyane Wade said the Heat wanted payback.

Consider that check cashed and deposited.

Can Urban Meyer maintain his health and coach Florida football

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- If you read between the lines, and connect the dots and paint by the numbers provided by the University of Florida, here's one of the conclusions you're left to consider: Coach Urban Meyer might be willing to die for Gators football.

NASCAR grapples with fallout from Daytona 500 plagued by delays

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Things are fixed quickly in the world of NASCAR. Tires are changed in a matter of seconds. Transmissions can be replaced in minutes. Like the fast cars, speedy repairs are part of the sport's draw.

Florida coach Urban Meyer can't stay away from the action

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The most interesting thing about Urban Meyer's "I'm back" news conference Saturday was not something he said but rather his actions.

(The Associated Press) Teammates James Wilson (left) and Matt Patchan (71) look over Floriday quarterback Tim Tebow after he was sacked in a game against Kentucky on Saturday.

Tebow's status remains unclear for Florida Gators

University of Florida linebacker Ryan Stamper has seen plenty of football players get concussions during his five-year collegiate career. Nothing in his lengthy Rolodex of personal experience prepared him for what he saw Saturday night in Kentucky.

When Florida's Tim Tebow went down with 3:57 left in the third quarter, Stamper said his "heart just dropped." So, too, did the collective heart of Gator Nation.
