I remember riding my horse with my family in the Ogden Pioneer Days parade in 1964 or 1965, and remember John Knight riding an old mule with the letters LBJ spray painted across its rear end. People thought it was hilarious. Good thing it wasn't today, or John would have been arrested, the mule impounded and hazmat teams brought in to test the paint. And, there'd be a lawsuit filed on the mule's behalf for degrading him in public, and counseling would be offered to the crowd. Good thing people weren't such crybabies in 1941. We wouldn't be allowed to have a parade or cry about it.
