After it was glaringly missing from a March announcement about CBS's renewed shows, "Criminal Minds" is one step closer to that pickup. And the procedural's showrunner has signed a new deal with its studio, Deadline reports.CBS hopes to close new deals with the cast for a ninth season. Historically, though, that hasn't gone well. Original star Mandy Patinkin walked away from the show abruptly in the summer of '07, leaving the show in the lurch. And in the the summer of 2010, CBS decided to ditch two of the show's ensemble cast members, A.J. Cook and Paget Brewster, so the show would evolve, CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler said at about that time. (Cook was later rehired.)In March, CBS announced that it had renewed 18 of its prime-time shows for the 2013-14 TV season, including nine dramas: "NCIS," "NCIS: Los Angeles," "CSI," "Person of Interest," "Elementary," "Hawaii Five-O," "The Mentalist," "Blue Bloods" and "The Good Wife."
