For Olympic gymnasts, it’s usually one and done

No athlete dazzled at the London Olympics quite like Gabby Douglas, the pint-sized dynamo who won the individual all-around title after leading the U.S. women’s gymnastics squad to team gold.

Though she’s nearly 17, Douglas has yet to get her driver’s license because at 4-feet-11 and 94 pounds, her mother worries she’ll be mistaken for a child and pulled over.

TALLADEGA, Ala. -- It was four years ago that Katy Veal first brought her children to Talladega Superspeedway. And when the earsplitting stampede of 43 cars first roared past at nearly 200 mph, just a stone's throw from the Veals' infield camping spot, the kids screamed, "Mom! This is awesome!"

WASHINGTON -- The lexicon of motorsports is riddled with peculiar turns of phrases.

Among them is "track brats," which refers to kids of racecar drivers whose childhoods are played out in the infield, whether boys racing Matchbox cars or girls clambering atop their father's shoulders in Victory Lane.

Laver: No saying who's the best ever

WIMBLEDON, England -- He dominated tennis in the era of small wooden rackets, when it took three days to travel from England to Australia, and players had to scurry around between points picking up stray balls themselves because the concept of ball boys didn't exist.
But on Sunday, Rod Laver returned to Wimbledon.
At 70 and clad in suit and tie, the Rocket wasn't physically imposing.
