Lyme Disease article contains misinformation

Editor,

There is a huge controversy surrounding Lyme Disease, in which two divided opinions exist regarding diagnosis, treatment and whether it can continue in chronic stages. The Standard’s Nov. 16 article from Bloomberg News quotes the Infectious Disease Society of America ("Lyme disease not chronic; it’s a new infection"). The opposing opinion of the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society argues that persistent infection is common, in fact, there are numerous studies that show persistence of infection despite treatment with antibiotics.
