Too easy for parents to put teacher under the bus

Contributed, Meg Sanders
Mar 26 2014 - 4:31pm

My resume into the education world consists of student, daughter of a teacher, and after school program director. Parent will be a new position for me, set to begin in the fall. Playing the position of student I failed miserably, holding the record of lowest GPA in the family as well as a foray within school suspension. Two things help with the...

Pressure to be young getting harder to avoid

Mar 12 2014 - 6:56pm

I'm going to let you on in a little secret ... a little experiment I underwent, you know, just to see how it feels or looks I guess. Feb 26 2014 - 12:41pm

Ethan Brown is 6. He should be enjoying boundless energy with is mom begging him to sit still, he should be curious about the small world surrounding him, and his biggest concern should be whether or not the Tooth Fairy will remember to leave him some money under his pillow. Ethan should be stuffing himself on candy instead of the heavy-duty...

Pub crawls and dance clubs too much at a certain age

Jan 29 2014 - 4:33pm

Somehow between the age of 22 and 29, I managed to put about a million miles on this bod, not in the Hugh-Hefner-bunny sorta way. Well, kind of, I guess -- it was the three kids. By no means am I saying I'm old, as I've yet to officially hit 30. My dear friend Bridget is nearing 40 and she not only looks like a 20-year-old, but she can keep...

Is the verdict still out on immersion programs in Utah schools?

Meg Sanders, Standard-Examiner columnist
Jan 1 2014 - 5:34pm

Like some epidemic sweeping across the state, immersion programs seem to be taking over our schools. Dreams of Spanish, Chinese, and French speaking children glimmer in the eyes of white, suburban parents when carpool pick-up comes around at the end of each day.

Feeling guilty about ditching work to be mom?

Meg Sanders, Standard-Examiner columnist

I went back to work -- on a freelance basis. Currently, I have had to flake out on my employer twice, maybe three times because of family issues.
