Polish train collision kills 16

SZCZEKOCINY, Poland -- Poland's government insisted Sunday that rail travel is safe in the country despite a train collision that killed 16 people, assurances that come months before masses of sports fans will enter the country for a major soccer tournament -- many of whom will crisscross the nation by train.

Polish President Lech Kaczynski, his wife and some of the country's highest military and civilian leaders died on Saturday, when the presidential plane crashed as it came in for a landing in thick fog in western Russia.

Russia points to human error in fatal Polish crash

WARSAW, Poland -- Russian investigators suggested human error may have been to blame in the plane crash that killed the Polish president and 95 others, saying Monday there were no technical problems with the Soviet-made plane.
