Wildlife crossing structures save lives, hides

LOGAN -- If Utah drivers take the high road and wildlife takes the low "road," everyone gets home safely.

Patty Cramer helps design underpasses and overpasses that help prevent collisions between drivers just passing through and the moose, elk, mule deer and smaller animals moving around in their home habitat.

The Utah State University wildland resource research assistant professor determines where underpasses or overpasses are needed based on past collisions and her surveillance footage.

Lessons in the dark

OGDEN -- About 1,400 Top of Utah high school students on Thursday stepped off yellow school buses, into the ornate auditorium of Peery's Egyptian Theater. There they were enveloped in the frustrating, politically manipulated world of top Lithuanian basketball players of the 1980s.

Physicist Doug Biesecker said the biggest concern from the speedy eruption is the radiation, which arrived on Earth an hour later.

OGDEN -- Joyce Plastrow came to Weber State University for Chris Powell's talk about weight-loss motivation.

OGDEN -- Utah is famous as earthquake country, with the Wasatch Mountains serving as an obvious natural marker for the fault line that built them hundreds of millions of years ago.

The earthquake potential of western Oregon was a much better-kept secret until the past decade or two, said Scott F. Burns, a geology professor at Portland State University.

WSU to host volunteer fair on Wednesday

OGDEN — Weber State University’s Community Involvement Center will host a volunteer fair from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Shepherd Union Atrium.
