Prep football: Bees poke Pocatello

BRIGHAM CITY -- As though preparing for a Broadway show, the Box Elder Bees had one last dress rehearsal Thursday night before heading to the big stage next week in the state 4-A football playoffs. The game was the final regular-season tilt in Top of Utah prep football.

The Bees, choosing to play instead of taking the week off due to the UEA break, invited the Pocatello Indians out of Idaho for an interstate friendly. The Bees punched past the Indians in a not so friendly 22-17 slugfest.

B.L. reigns on homecoming

OGDEN -- Region 11 took to the field early this week, and gridiron Thursday suits the Ben Lomond Scots just fine. The Scots bulled over the Tooele Buffs 15-0 on Thursday at McAllister Field.

Prep football: Grizzlies flush Royals at Roy

ROY -- One might expect a little carnage when squaring off with a bunch of Grizzlies.

But Friday night, the visiting Logan Grizzlies left a Royal mess, drubbing Roy 49-7.

The scoring came early and often for the Grizzlies, finding the end zone four times in the first half, Capitalizing on Royal miscues, Grizzlies signal caller DJ Nelson accounted for five touchdowns, 3 rushing and 2 through the air.

Titans prevail in defensive struggle

SYRACUSE -- The Syracuse Titans forgot their manners Friday night, proving defensive and reactionary in smashing Skyline in a 13-7 slugfest.

While both defenses stole the show for the majority of the night, the Titans had a score in each half to reward their defense.

"We still need to work hard and keep building chemistry," Syracuse coach Russ Jones said. "But I am proud of our whole team's effort tonight."

Prep football: Warriors get best of Vikings

BOUNTIFUL -- The Weber Warriors were feeling right at home in Bountiful Friday night, powering past the Viewmont Vikings 20-6.

The Vikings were hoping that the old adage "there's no place like home" rings true as they have dropped their first two games at home by a combined score of 71-6. The Warriors, meanwhile, flexed their muscle from the opening kick. Controlling the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball was key in the Warriors' victory.

CLEARFIELD -- Season openers are a lot like a box of chocolates, as Forrest Gump's mom always said. You just don't know what you're gonna get.

Titans remain unbeaten after 28-14 win over Viewmont

BOUNTIFUL -- The Viewmont Vikings were the friendliest of hosts Friday night as they gave the ball, and the victory to Region 1 foe of Syracuse. The Titans' stingy defense allowed only 7 points in route to a 28-14 win.
Forcing three tournovers in each half, the Titans defence controlled the game from the opening kick. After a scoreless first quarter, sophmore Hunter Dimick picked Vikings quarterback Jeremy Lieber pass and took it to the Vikings' 1. Rick Reardon caught a 1-yard touchdown pass from Tanner Russell on the very next play.
Russell found Mitch Tulane in the middle of the endzone for a 14-0 halftime lead, before hitting Tulane again for a score to open the second half.

Scots top Union in OT

OGDEN -- Ben Lomond's third-year coach Jeff Kilts had little question on whom to turn to for leadership this season.
With 24 returning seniors, most who started as sophomores, the Scots' coach was looking forward to veteran leadership this year. He may need to adjust his thinking a little as sophomore running back Caden Perea carried the Scots to a dramatic season-opening overtime win over the Union Cougars 13-7.
Carson Chadwick scored the game-winning touchdown on a 3-yard run.
