Life lessons compliments of our animated friends

Everyone loves a good animated movie; most of us have grown up with them. We cheered on our heroes as they tackled the obstacles in their lives, we felt for the characters when they went through extreme hardships, and we may have even cried or felt sad when characters passed away.

We encouraged our favorite animated characters as they tried new things, burst through barriers and escaped what was holding them back. We were not only entertained, but we also picked up a few good lessons along the way.

Battle those blahs

Around this time of year, do you start to get tired of the dead trees and freezing weather, of scraping frost off of your car windshield every morning and of seeing gloomy skies with far less sun?

For many, winter is a tough time of year.

"I kind of hate winter!" says Taylor Edmonds, a Syracuse High sophomore. "I don't like all the cold weather and snow, but I guess it comes with living in Utah."

Rena Bogden, a Northridge High junior, says, "Winter is OK. I just don't like that it's constantly cold. I'm just waiting for spring to hit."

Beware deadly food allergies

Have you ever met anyone who's never eaten pizza, tried ice cream, or even eaten a peanut butter and jelly sandwich?

For many Top of Utah teens, one or more of the above food items can make them extremely sick.

Teens who have food allergies or food intolerances find keeping track of everything they eat is a way of life. Most of them are used to intensely searching for the nutrition facts on a candy bar, asking for the ingredients of the dessert at birthday parties, or just plain bringing their own special food to events.
