Disaster survivors urged to beware of recovery scams

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Small Business Administration is urging disaster victims seeking federal aid to be alert to scam artists posing as federal officials and to be cautious about any solicitations for fees to perform services that are available from federal agency staff for free.

In the wake of widespread flooding, wildfires and tornados in many areas across the country over the past few months, the SBA is particularly concerned about flyers that have appeared in tornado-damaged areas asking for non-refundable fees of up to $450 to help disaster victims fill out their loan applications and as much as $1,000 to verify losses and file loan applications.

Utah company lands $5M Navy contract for unmanned vehicle

THE PRESIDENT: First of all, I just want to thank everybody for the seriousness, the diligence that you've displayed already on this Jobs Council. When we formed this we understood that we had averted the worst possibilities of a Great Depression. We'd gotten the economy growing again. We had stabilized the financial system. So we had made great strides from where we had been in 2008. But we understood even though jobs were being created they were not being created fast enough.

Update on spring conditions in Uinta-Cache-Wasatch National Forests

SALT LAKE CITY – Areas on the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest continue to be affected by high water and lingering snowpack. The areas affected are Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons, Millcreek Canyon, American Fork Canyon, North Slope of the High Uintas, Mirror Lake Highway, Stansbury Mountain Range, Weber River area near Kamas and Blacksmith Fork in the Logan area.

Forest visitors need to adhere to road closure signage or blockades. Travelers should not attempt to cross roads where water is flowing across. Parents should keep children and pets away from rivers, streams, and riverbanks. Fast-moving rivers and streams are extremely powerful and dangerous.

Utah tourism officials tout direct flights, film industry

LOS ANGELES - Utah tourism officials and Delta Air Lines executives met with select tour operators Wednesday at the Luxe Hotel in Los Angeles to tout the re-launch of non-stop Delta flights between Salt Lake City, Utah and Tokyo, Japan. Spencer Eccles, executive director of the Governor's Office of Economic Development, also spoke to the group on how a re-launch of direct service between Japan and Utah supports Governor Gary R.

Auto dealer inducted into UofU business hall of fame
