How about a 'Cash 4 Sports Clunkers' program

The government-subsidized "Cash for Clunkers" program was so successful in removing so many old, gas-guzzling, pollution-coughing vehicles from the road, it makes sense for the Obama administration to initiate another stimulus program.
We'll call this one "Cash 4 Sports Clunkers."
Want to get rid of a washed-up, broken-down, or under-achieving professional athlete who isn't earning his salary? Or how about a player who pleaded guilty to a felony? No problem. If our proposed legislation passes, the Federal Reserve will pay off the remainder of any contract, if a team wants to cut ties with a particular player and replace him with a more efficient player with low mileage.

Everything you didn't know about Chuck Finley, an Angels Hall of Famer

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Little-known facts about Chuck Finley, who will be inducted into the Angel Hall of Fame on Thursday night at Angel Stadium along with former teammate Brian Downing:
Finley holds the major league record for striking out four batters in one inning. He did it three times. No other major league pitcher in history did it more than once.
"What a weird record," a smirking Finley said Tuesday after appearing as a guest on Rex Hudler's AM 830 radio show at "Throwbacks Sports Bar & Grill" down the street from his longtime ballpark home. "Weird things always seem to attach themselves to me."

Former World Series star Scott Spiezio trying to turn back the clock after troubled times

FULLERTON, Calif. -- A few miles down the freeway from where he chiseled his name in Angels history with one swing of his bat in the 2002 World Series, Scott Spiezio came out of retirement Tuesday night and launched a comeback at the lowest level of professional baseball in the hope it will earn him another chance in the majors.
Spiezio, 36, is trying to turn back the clock with the OC Flyers of the independent Golden Baseball League, so it seemed appropriate that he showed up for his first game carrying his equipment in a duffel bag adorned with the now-obsolete Anaheim Angels logo.
He also brought substantial emotional baggage with him to Goodwin Field, his new home ballpark on the campus of Cal State Fullerton, where he enjoyed a smashing debut in his first game in nearly 16 months. He went 3 for 4, including a home run, and scored three runs in the Flyers' 7-0 victory against the Chico Outlaws.
