Wildcats host Eagles before road gauntlet

OGDEN -- In the midst of Weber State's toughest road stretch of the season, the Big Sky Conference schedule makers carved out a pit stop for WSU at the Dee Events Center tonight.

Thursday night's win over Northern Arizona marked the first in a stretch where the Wildcats play four of their final five league games on the road, broken up by tonight's 7:30 p.m. game in Ogden against Eastern Washington. WSU will also be home for a non-conference Bracketbusters battle against UT Arlington on Feb. 18.

Another happy homecoming for Wildcats

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- There's something about playing Northern Arizona that brings out the best in Weber State's Arizonans.

Phoenix product Byron Fulton had his second double-double of the year Thursday, coming off the bench to score 13 points and pull down 10 rebounds to help Weber State roll to a 67-49 victory over Northern Arizona at the Rolle Activity Center.

'Team unity' hot shooting keying WSU success

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Weber State ranks first in the country in free-throw shooting percentage, third in 3-pointers made per game and fourth in 3-point percentage. Junior point guard Damian Lillard is No. 1 in NCAA Division I in scoring and the Wildcats are first in the Big Sky in multiple categories, starting with scoring offense.

Yet senior forward Kyle Bullinger points to something besides statistics as the reason for the team's success, including an 18-4 record and a 10-1 mark in the Big Sky Conference.

Safe to say Lillard's 'slump' is behind him

Damian Lillard's scoring demands notice.

After averaging 37.5 points per game in two contests last week against Portland State and Northern Colorado, expect the explosive Weber State point guard to be in line for his fifth Big Sky Conference player of the week honor Monday, and likely some national recognition as well.

'Real deal' Lillard awes Bears at the Dee

OGDEN -- Five of Weber State's top 10 career scoring leaders were in the building on Saturday afternoon, with the school recognizing all-time top scorer Bruce Collins along with Jimmy Degraffenreid (third), Jimmie Watts (sixth) and David Johnson (ninth) at halftime.

No. 2 leading scorer Damian Lillard wasn't on the court at the half, but he was all over it the rest of the time, scoring 35 points to lead Weber State to a 93-81 victory over Northern Colorado in front of 6,966 fans at the Dee Events Center.

Wildcats run home winning streak to 14

OGDEN -- On a night when both teams sizzled from the field, the Wildcats showed off their firepower.

NCAA scoring leader Damian Lillard followed a 40-point outing in his last game with 35 more Saturday at the Dee Events Center, and Weber State never trailed in a 93-81 victory over Northern Colorado.

Lillard, who came in averaging 25.1 points per game, hit 12 of 18 shots from the field and 5 of 9 from beyond the arc for the Wildcats (18-4, 11-1 Big Sky), who have not lost at home this season and have a 14-game home winning streak dating to last season.

Wildcats looking for last year's magic against Bears

OGDEN -- When Northern Colorado came into the Dee Events Center a year ago, the Bears were unbeaten in the Big Sky before Scott Bamforth's buzzer-beater from just inside half court sent them packing with their first loss.

The electrifying shot garnered national attention on highlight reels and was a defibrillator jolt to the heart for Weber State, which was limping along at the time without injured superstar Damian Lillard and had lost to the same Northern Colorado team by 19 points on the road in its previous game.

Lillard scores 40 to pace Weber State's triumph

OGDEN -- On Groundhog Day, 6,285 Weber State fans saw the same movie they've been watching all year at the Dee Events Center.

Portland State would have rather seen Bill Murray.

Damian Lillard got a standing ovation as he walked off the court after a free throw with 11.5 seconds to go gave him an even 40 points as the Wildcats defeated the Vikings 92-79 Thursday at home.

New WSU recruiting class 'better than expected'

OGDEN -- College coaches say recruiting is a year-round process.

John L. Smith had two months.

Smith, hired in December to replace retired Weber State football coach Ron McBride, announced his first recruiting class Wednesday on national signing day.

Banged-up Wildcats hope to bounce back against Vikings

OGDEN -- The Wildcats have slogged their way through setbacks to forge a tie for first place at just over the halfway point in the Big Sky race, but there are a lot of miles left on the highway ahead.

As Weber State (16-4, 8-1 Big Sky) prepares to face Portland State (10-11, 4-5) tonight at 7 p.m. at the Dee Events Center, the path so far has been bumpier than the Wildcats' glossy record indicates.

Local boys theme of Wildcats' recruiting class

OGDEN -- With National Signing Day coming today, Weber State is wrapping up commitments for new football coach John L. Smith's first recruiting class.

At least six Utah products are expected to ink a national letter of intent, including AJ Wilcox, a 6-foot-5, 235 pound defensive end from Syracuse High.

With senior starting quarterback Mike Hoke out for spring practices after having surgery to repair his separated shoulder, more reps may be available for Weber State's newest QB signees alongside the returning signal-callers.

WSU quarterback Hoke to miss spring ball

Weber State quarterback Mike Hoke will miss spring football after having surgery recently to repair a separated shoulder that limited him last season.

Hoke, who started 10 games as a junior in 2011, separated the shoulder in an Oct. 1, 2011, game at Eastern Washington but missed only one play in the contest. He later was forced to sit out Weber State's 45-10 shellacking at the hands of Montana on Oct. 29.

Idaho State shocks 'Cats with buzzer beater

POCATELLO, Idaho -- Idaho State answered the Wildcats' final charge with a lightning bolt.

Kenny McGowen buried a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give Idaho State a 64-62 win at Holt Arena on Saturday, burying Weber State's 10-game winning streak with it.

With the Wildcats up by one after fighting to retake the lead for the first time since early in the game, McGowen slipped into the right corner as Weber State defenders converged on Chase Grabau with time running out. Grabau got the ball to him just in time and McGowen's shot swished through, ending Idaho State's seven-game losing spell against Weber State (16-4, 8-1 Big Sky) and handing the Wildcats their first Big Sky loss of the season.

Milestone on tap for Lillard, Wildcats

POCATELLO, Idaho -- After tonight, only one man will stand between Damian Lillard and Weber State's all-time scoring record.

At 1,622 points, Lillard needs three points against Idaho State to pass Jimmy Degraffenreid (1991-96) and then only Bruce Collins (1976-1980) and his 2,019 points remain, 398 away from where Lillard stands now.

Wildcats show no mercy to Big Sky doormat Hornets

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Weber State made Sacramento State its mirror opposite with a 75-60 win Thursday at The Nest.

The Wildcats are undefeated in Big Sky play; the Hornets, winless.

With 10 NBA scouts and executives in attendance, including Sacramento Kings GM Geoff Petrie, Weber State point guard Damian Lillard scored 21 points and surpassed former Weber State star Jermaine Boyette for third place on the school's career scoring list with a 3-pointer in the second half.
