S&P cracks 1,400 for first time since 2008

NEW YORK -- The stock market cleared another barrier Thursday in its long recovery from the Great Recession: The Standard & Poor's 500 index closed above 1,400 for the first time since June 2008.

Stocks ease as Greece debt talks continue

NEW YORK -- Stocks fell in morning trading Tuesday as investors once again turned their eyes to Greece, where talks dragged on over terms of new spending cuts.

Stocks fall on worries about Greece talks

NEW YORK -- Stocks are falling in morning trading Tuesday as investors remain concerned that a deal to cut Greece's debt might fall through.

Stocks edge higher as unemployment claims decline

NEW YORK -- U.S. stocks edged higher in early trading Thursday following strong bank earnings and a decline in applications for unemployment benefits.

Stocks open mixed; jobs report comes in weak
