LOS ANGELES — Ping pong is having a moment, thanks in no small part to Susan Sarandon.

The Oscar-winning actress and self-described “ping pong propagandist” envisions a nation of table-tennis players. To that end, she’s the famous name behind SPiN, a series of “ping pong social clubs” that opened its latest location in Los Angeles Wednesday. There are also clubs in New York, Toronto and Milwaukee.

LOS ANGELES — Phyllis Diller, the housewife turned humorist who aimed some of her sharpest barbs at herself, punctuating her jokes with her trademark cackle, died Monday morning in her Los Angeles home at age 95.

“She died peacefully in her sleep and with a smile on her face,” her longtime manager, Milton Suchin, told The Associated Press.

Diller, who suffered a near-fatal heart attack in 1999, was found by her son, Perry Diller. The cause of her death has not been released.

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. -- The MTV Movie Awards was more like "The Team Edward Show."

"Twilight" star Robert Pattinson sucked up the spotlight -- and some popcorn-shaped trophies -- at Sunday's shenanigan-packed ceremony. Among the goofy actor's moments: winning three different awards, unexpectedly kissing co-star Taylor Lautner, and slipping the F-word past censors when presenting Reese Witherspoon with the special MTV Generation Award.

"It's not always a bad thing to have sexual chemistry with your mother," joked Pattinson, who played the son of Witherspoon's character in "Vanity Fair" and her love interest in "Water for Elephants."

LOS ANGELES -- Reese Witherspoon better make some room on her trophy shelf.

MTV says Witherspoon will receive its Generation Award at Sunday's MTV Movie Awards.

The 35-year-old Oscar winner is being recognized for her range as an actress and for delighting the MTV audience throughout her career. MTV President Stephen Friedman called Witherspoon "one of the most versatile and accomplished performers of her time."
