3 Md. school workers split Mega Millions win

BALTIMORE — Two public school teachers and a school administrator who call themselves “The Three Amigos” are sharing the spoils of last month’s record Mega Millions jackpot, planning trips to Europe, new homes and children’s college educations, Maryland Lottery officials said Tuesday.

Testimony change led to dismissal in abortion case

BALTIMORE -- A Maryland prosecutor says he had to drop murder charges against two abortion doctors after learning that an expert witness expected to testify that the fetuses were terminated in the county would change his testimony.

Police: ex-Pentagon official confused before death

WILMINGTON, Del. -- A prominent national defense expert appeared confused and disoriented as he wandered inside a downtown Wilmington office building less than 14 hours before his body was dumped with a load of trash at a nearby landfill, police said Wednesday.

John P. Wheeler III refused help from several people who approached him inside the Nemours Building as late as 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Newark Police Lt. Mark A. Farrall said.

Wheeler's body was found Friday morning at the Cherry Island Landfill in Wilmington. Police believe he was killed, but they haven't said how or why.

Discovery gunman shot dead; 3 hostages safe

SILVER SPRING, Md. -- Police shot and killed a man upset with the Discovery Channel network's programming who took two employees and a security officer hostage at the company's headquarters Wednesday, officials said. All three hostages escaped safely.
