Uncle Sam desperately needs help

Poor Uncle Sam!

From the moment he was born, he was a star! He rose from the dark ashes of a terrible war to defend and lead his people, his nation and the world toward a bright future of truth, prosperity and peace. “Equality!” was his battle cry and “Democracy” his unwavering shield.

What ever happened to quality?

Quality is a nearly lost attribute in society today. The influences of money, greed and selfishness have overcome this powerful trait and have even lowered its perceived standards in everything from the music we listen to to the sports we watch.

The modern world would have everyone believe quantity and advertisement equal quality, yet some of the highest quality products and performances I've seen are some of the least well-known and advertised.

Red light or green? Not a problem

Whenever I mention that I'm colorblind, the first thing my companions do is immediately point to the nearest object and ask what color it is. They then proceed to point out every object in the room and pose the same question, becoming increasingly surprised as I answer each one correctly.

What people fail to realize is that colorblindness does not always imply black-and-white eyesight, like a dog, or a confusion in my eyes that mismatches every color I see. Just like every other disease or disorder, colorblindness varies in type and degree.

Playing those night games

You awake to the sound of ear-splitting screams. Your heart immediately goes into overdrive. Has someone been injured? Has the violence of the nearby neighborhood finally spread to your own?

Part of you wants to get out of bed and investigate. The other wants to hide beneath the covers and hope whatever caused the screams will stay outside.

Run. Drive. Sleep? Repeat -- The Ragnar Relay

For some, running is a way of life. For others, it is a form of exercise only attempted when one's belly is showing or the scale is screaming for a little relief.

But whether it's the joy of sharing 192 miles with 11 sweaty friends, seeing the scale in your bathroom jump back five pounds, dressing up in crazy outfits, or winning the shiny medal and enjoying the humongous after party, the Ragnar Relay: Wasatch Back has something for you.

What is the Ragnar Relay? Some call it a slumber party without sleep, pillows or deodorant. Others call it crazy.

Is it really that important for teens to 'get involved'?

You've seen it in the school PowerPoint and posters. You've heard the SBOs announce it on the intercom. Everyone seems like a salesman, constantly trying to pull you toward their club or sport until you are forced to say yes just to get them to shut up.

Even after you've bent to their hammering, the barrage of other propositions never seems to end. Every high school club or activity guarantees scholarships, friendships and awards. You find your head spinning in the confusion of it all and wonder to yourself, "Where do I fit in?"

'Tron: Legacy' lives up to original masterpiece

If special effects, 3-D depth of field and action-packed cinema are what you crave, then "Tron: Legacy" is the movie for you.

Just like the original, "Tron: Legacy" pushes the limits of known cinematography and brings special effects to the next level. It even boasts an amazing new techno score by Daft Punk which will leave you tantalized and filled with anticipation as its new-age rhythm moves the story along.
