Increase in criminal and terrorist incidents -- report suspicious activity

Over the last several weeks there has been an increase in surveillance and penetration attempts at military installations throughout the continental United States (CONUS).

Some of these incidents have been nationally televised, such as the incidents at McDill Air Force Base, Fla., and Fort Gordon, Ga., but others include the unpublicized suspected surveillances of Westover Air Reserve Base, Mass., and Homestead AFB, Fla., have not.

Eagle Eyes program: Report suspicious activity

No matter how well trained and vigilant our law enforcement and counterterrorism personnel are, they simply cannot be everywhere, at all times. The eyes and ears of each member of Team Hill, as well as those of our neighbors in the local community, play an absolute crucial role in the prevention of terrorism along the Wasatch Front.

Be alert against complacency on homegrown terrorism

The actual threat that terrorism poses to the U.S. in any given year, or on any given day, usually fluctuates less than the irregular pattern that terrorist incidents may suggest. More to the point, the threat fluctuates much less during any given time period than does the oscillating public concern about the threat of terrorism. A good example of how this skewed perception of threat has impacted the public's psyche is highlighted by an examination of the periods directly leading up to, and following, the coordinated attacks of 9/11.

Mail handling security advisory includes safety tips

According to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, few aspects of our society are as safe as the U.S. Mail.

Vary your routine to lessen potential as terror target

Repetitious day-to-day routines can do more to make you a terrorist target than any other activity. Terrorists rarely attack people who do not have rigid daily habits, simply because they cannot accurately predict the person's movements in order to prepare their trap.

You can stop a terrorist plot with just one finger!

Since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, at least 25 major terrorist plots against the United States have been foiled; many by alert citizens just like you! America is truly in a long war against terrorism. To win this war, each of us must remain vigilant and report suspicious activities as they occur, not only on Hill Air Force Base, but also within our communities and neighborhoods.
