Plain City approves new design

PLAIN CITY — The city council finally approved a design for the new building and bowery at Town Square Park.

Councilwoman LaFray Kelley had asked the council to consider a design that included 12 extra feet of storage for a sound trailer, but her motion to that effect died for lack of a second.

Councilman Bruce Higley moved to have the bowery design include restrooms and two storage areas, but without the 12 feet of extra storage. Kelley voted against the motion, but Higley and two other council members voted to approve the design.

Shupe appointed mayor pro tempore

FARR WEST — Councilman Tim Shupe was recently appointed mayor pro tempore and will act as mayor at any time that Mayor Jimmie Papageorge is unable to perform his duties.

PLAIN CITY — Council members approved the trade-in of a backhoe and purchase of a new backhoe.

Pleasant View walking path clear and ready for use

PLEASANT VIEW — The walking path is open, cleared of snow and ready for those wanting to stroll along Pleasant View Drive, said Councilman Jerold Burns, who said he wanted to thank the city employees who had cleared the path.

Police get $9,000 donation for radar equipment

PLEASANT VIEW — Police Chief Scott Jackson says the day following an article in the Standard-Examiner explaining the need for new radar equipment, the Pleasant View Police Department received an anonymous donation of $9,000 to pay for three radar units.

Jackson said he is grateful to the donor and to the Standard-Examiner for running the story.

Council members recently approved the purchase of two of the five needed radar units. With the $9,000 donation, all five units will now be purchased.

Official: Canal maintenance not just Pleasant View's problem

PLEASANT VIEW -- Payment of $2,600 to North Ogden for cleaning the canal running between 476 West and Hillsborough Drive is just the tip of the iceberg as far as keeping the canal clean is concerned, says Councilman Michael Humphreys.

Canvass confirms Plain City council

PLAIN CITY — A canvass of the 2011 municipal election results has confirmed the city’s new council members.

They are incumbent LaFray Kelley with 468 votes, Joel Maw with 375 votes and Mark Lowther with 371 votes, said City Recorder Diane Hirschi, who said about 22 percent of registered voters participated in the election.

Pleasant View needs new adminstrator

PLEASANT VIEW -- City Administrator J.J. Allen is taking a job as administrator in Clearfield and will leave his job as Pleasant View city administrator on Dec. 9.
