MILWAUKEE -- When the Milwaukee Brewers made a series of stunning personnel and staff changes Wednesday morning, some people thought they were running up a white flag next to their 2008 wild-card banner at Miller Park.
Not so, said general manager Doug Melvin.
"We're still focused on winning games," Melvin said. "We're not giving up. If there's anybody in the clubhouse that's giving up, they shouldn't be here."
In terms of shock value, consider it mission accomplished. First, the Brewers announced they dismissed pitching coach Bill Castro. Then, they sent starting shortstop J.J. Hardy to the minor leagues. To cap it off, they designated infielder/outfielder Bill Hall for assignment.
