Countries receiving our aid don't reciprocate

Editor,

Concerning Hurricane Sandy, from watching the news broadcasts, I find it strange that we hear nothing from all those countries that we have given aid to. They might at least make a token effort to help this nation when it is needed. I guess they really don’t appreciate the help we give them after all.

Traffic lights should turn red as ambulance approaches

Editor,

I have been reading and re-reading the story of the car that drove through the intersection on the green light and the ambulance crashed into it (July 7, "South Ogden pileup kills one, injures six"). I have written a "Letter to the Editor" about this before when a similar thing happened in another city. The people in that car claimed they were not able to hear the siren and the number of cars at the intersection blocked their view of the oncoming emergency vehicles. They too had the green light and proceeded on and were struck by the ambulance.

Officers should be better shots

Editor,

The Weber County Attorney is "maxed out" with the heavy number of cases that are facing him at this time ("Weber feeling weight of three major cases"). I would suggest that he ask his chief of police to train his officers to be better shots.

Offer Treasury bonds with a better return

(UNEDITED) I received an e-mail the other day from a friend showing some WW-II Posters of when we were asked to "Buy Bonds." Many will remember those days. The thought passed my mind that maybe this might be a partial solution to this county's financial dilemma. If our congress would think about offering a decent return in 5 or 10 years on bonds purchased now when interest rates in banks and credit unions are nearly worthless, maybe the nation could get itself out of this sorry mess that we are in. Just a thought.

Feds are tasked with protecting states from invasion

(UNEDITED)Since the Federal Government is bent on making sure Arizona can't do what they are supposed to do, that is, control Arizona's border, it is, in my opinion, that Arizona should now turn around and sue the federal government for not doing its job. As I read and quote from Article IX, Section 5 of the Constitution; "The United States shall guarantee to every state in this Union a Republic form of Government and shall protect each of them against invasion;

Some celebrate for God, then country

(UNEDITED) In answer to 82 year old Jerry Gerard from Brigham City. (Mon. July 19) Did Brigham City celebrate the 4th of July on the 3rd, or on the 5th? Some did decide to celebrate on some other day other than on Sunday, but I know that all of the Federal, State, county and City employees plus all the members of Unions all over the whole United States decided to celebrate the 4th of July on the 5th, and got a paid holiday for it besides.
