Standard made the wrong call, should have endorsed Rep. Bishop

The Ogden Standard Examiner’s political endorsement of First Congressional District Democrat Challenger Donna McAleer over respected incumbent Republican Congressman Rob Bishop was disappointing to many of us who have been actively working over many years to preserve and protect Hill AFB and Northern Utah’s Defense and Space interests. I (we) respectfully disagree and believe the Editorial Board’s decision is short-sighted and simply doesn’t ring true.

Hatch instrumental in survival of HAFB

(UNEDITED) Mr. Ernst...are you kidding? Your July 26 letter suggesting Senators Hatch and Bennett had little impact on the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process is naÃØve at best. I served as the President of the Utah Defense Alliance during the past two BRAC rounds and I know first-hand what Utah's Senators did for Hill AFB. I was in the room when a top ranking four-star Air Force general looked at Governor Leavitt and Utah's Congressional delegation and said "If I have to pick a base to close for BRAC it will be Hill AFB because it is the most politically expedient." BRAC free from politics....hah!

Recently Rocky Mountain Power has been running a series of ads thanking its customer base for being patient as the first section of the Gateway Project nears completion. Perhaps a more appropriate thank you would be from the consumer to Rocky Mountain Power.
