HOT OR NOT?We 'the people' influence careers

At any given time Americans are given the opportunity to make something "popular." The American adage is to say that we as "the people" can make or break something or someone's career.

Take, for example, ShamWow. The short but absolutely popular career of this artificial product-picker-upper only lasted until its abilities were proved otherwise -- false. This magic piece of cloth could not really hold irrational amounts of liquids and really couldn't even pick up much of anything.

Beware deadly food allergies

Have you ever met anyone who's never eaten pizza, tried ice cream, or even eaten a peanut butter and jelly sandwich?

For many Top of Utah teens, one or more of the above food items can make them extremely sick.

Teens who have food allergies or food intolerances find keeping track of everything they eat is a way of life. Most of them are used to intensely searching for the nutrition facts on a candy bar, asking for the ingredients of the dessert at birthday parties, or just plain bringing their own special food to events.

Torment at the theater

Televised talent competition promoted school pride

High schools pitted against each other in a battle for the grand prize. With only one grand prize there can only be one champion.

No, this isn't a sporting event, this is talent.

A new TV show from KSL Channel 5 called "We are Utah" recently featured a high school competition called "R U Talented." This segment of the program, which aired at 9 p.m. on Monday nights, showcased teenagers from all over Utah in a statewide talent show. Each person submitted an audition video and from all these preliminary selections the show's creators chose only a few to air.

'Tis the season for Christmas music -- both good and bad

Deck the halls with Christmas music, fa la la la la ... blah, blah, blah, blah.

There are Christmas songs we adore, and those we abhor. Someone's favorite Christmas music can be another's worst nightmare.

What holiday songs do we love to hum along to -- and which ones spoil the festive mood? Here are some opinions from Top of Utah teens.

"I like a song we're doing in choir, called 'Chapua Kali Desemba.' It gets you moving, and lifts your spirits."
