Since 1999, the Sandbaggers Golf Tournament trophy has been passed back and forth between the Ogden Air Logistics Center and the Military Affairs Committee, a joint effort of the Ogden-Weber and Davis Chambers of Commerce. This year, it was the OO-ALC's turn to take the trophy from the Military Affairs Committee, which has possessed the trophy for the past three years, after the last game of the two-part tournament on Aug. 27.
Each team on the Sandbaggers Tournament consists of 22 senior leaders from each organization. One day of the tournament is hosted at an off-base golf course -- this year they played at the Ogden Country Club in May -- and another tournament is played at the Hubbard Golf Course at Hill Air Force Base.
With a stroke-play format, the OO-ALC beat the Military Affairs Committee by 21 strokes for both tournament sessions.
The purpose of the tournament, besides having fun, is two-fold.
"We would like to generate awareness of the businesses that support the local communities and Hill Air Force Base," said Doug Dynes, Transformation division chief for the Plans and Programs Directorate of the OO-ALC, "and the second purpose of the tournament is for the businesses within the local Chambers of Commerce to show their support and appreciation to the military and civilian work force of the Air Force."
