Invitation to KJZZ taping brings out Air Force personnel on Sept. 11
The KJZZ "Cooking Delight" show invited active-duty Air Force service personnel from Hill Air Force Base to a special tribute taping of the show on Sept. 11. The host, Jennifer Burns, of Ogden Valley, welcomed those in attendance paying tribute to the efforts of those who serve overseas to protect the country's freedoms and also the soon-to-be deployed son of one of the producers. She also honored the firefighters and those who lost their lives on that infamous date in history seven years ago.
There were two tapings that day, the first specifically a tribute to Utah firefighters and service men and women. The second taping was to include Cameron White, a BMX professional from the AST Dew Tour. The show airs on Saturdays at 4 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.
Burns assembled a tomato and red onion salad and prepared fetuccini in a white herb and garlic sauce with shrimp. She served it to her enthusiastic audience members who included a few additional family members and spouses of those in attendance. Valerie Burke, 75th Public Affairs, who helped organize the audience members' invitations and participation, was also in attendance.
Lantern Lane performed singing "My Prayers are with You Soldier" from her latest CD, "Just Hold On." Kristen Bromley, Chris Overton and Jeff Seaman also performed with Lantern Lane at the taping.
Among the audience members, Ashley Pipkin, Air Force spouse, wanted to do something with her husband, Airman 1st Class Jacob Pipkin, 649th Munitions Squadron.
"He heard about it from work and asked me if I wanted to go," she said.
Kara Williams who works at the Army and Air Force Exchange Services Shopette mini mall, at Hill AFB, attended with her husband, Senior Airman Daniel Williams, Training Support Squadron. She sat with other family members in a corner just off the taping area.
She reported seeing the e-mail at work inviting those interested in attending that was sent by Hill personnel.
"I like cooking shows and being with my husband can be a scheduling challenge," she said. So it was a perfect activity for the pair.
Cassandra Bishop, wife of Airman 1st Class Ryan Bishop, talked it over with her husband. "He just told us about it. They were talking about it at work. It was his day off and he wanted to come."
They invited his mother, Denise Anaya, and his grandmother Joan Hammers, both of Northern California, who were in town.
"We were visiting and so we lucked out and got to come," Anaya said.
The show aired Sept. 13 and 14.
