We asked: What's on your iPod? Readers responded with a diverse mix of music and thoughtful chat.
Cameron Sharifan, Ogden -- "I'm a B-Boy (break dancer), so nearly everything on my iPod is something I can dance to.
"Although I like many styles of music, my two favorite are funk and old school or underground hip-hop -- just not any hip-hop you might hear on the radio.
"As for funk, James Brown is the man to listen to. As far as hip-hop, my favorite producer is a guy named RJD2, and one of my favorite rappers is Aceyalone. Together they have an album called 'Magnificent City' that's been out for a while, but I'm still listening to. I get excited about a lot of the songs, even if I've heard them a thousand times.'
Irene Cottam, Harrisville -- "My husband and I are from the older generation, 54 and 62. We love-love-love our iPod. We take it with us on our Harley-Davidson and we do not have to stop to put in another CD, we both bellow to the songs we have recorded.
"We have all country and mostly country classic. The last songs we added was Willie Nelson, which is my husband's favorite and drives me crazy ... I love Travis Tritt."
Jamie Barlow and family, Kaysville -- "We have 'American Idol' fever, so our iPods have downloads of David Archuleta and Brooke White.
"David's 'Imagine' and 'The Long and Winding Road' are amazing and Brooke's 'Let It Be' is great. It's a lot of fun to be able to download performances soon after the show."
Jay Johnson, North Ogden -- "I'm in my mid-30s, and for as long as I can remember have loved music. For the past six to seven years, I haven't listened to anything new, mainly because nothing caught my attention. I just listened to my standbys from the '80s and '90s -- Widespread Panic, the Police, Live, Pearl Jam and the like.
"A couple years ago, several bands have caught my ear, I think because there's a lot of stuff coming out that reminds me of '80s and '90s alternative. Bands like Interpol, the Bravery, Kasabian, Mando Diao, the Hives, and Kings of Leon are making some good music right now.
"I have also seen a resurgence of hard rock that reminds me a lot of Yes, Pink Floyd, and '70s/'80s Rush, in bands like Coheed and Cambria, the Mars Volta, and Wolfmother. I have also rediscovered some '80s/'90s bands that were on the fringe of my listening, such as Ministry and My Bloody Valentine.
"I've been really optimistic lately about music, because for a while I thought modern music was being taken over by hollow pop or whiny teen-angst. (But) rock and alternative is alive and well."
Kevin Cummings, Clearfield -- "Actually, I don't use my iPod for much music, mostly I listen to podcasts. Among my latest downloads:
"Grammar Girl's Quick and Dirty Tips for Better Writing -- Entertaining grammar lessons in five minutes a week (grammar.quickanddirtytips.com/default.aspx).
"Decoder Ring Theater -- Brand-new radio theater done in the style of the golden age of radio by a group of professional actors (www.decoderringtheater.com).
"KidsWifeWorkLife -- A married couple in the Pacific Northwest sharing their experiences as a family (www.kidswifeworklife.com).
"Window To The Magic 24 -- A real-time visit to Disneyland with an interesting twist (www.windowtothemagic.com/podcast.html).
"Tokyo Calling -- An expat American shares the experience of living and working in Japan (www.tokyocalling.org).
