Laws concerning marriage are God's laws

We, the people of the United States, have been blessed by God because we've chosen our governing laws to align with God's laws. When we choose to enact laws that do not align with God's laws, we are choosing to reject God and his blessings.

Some may deny the existence of God and his laws. I could deny the law of gravity exists, but that would not change the truth. Some say that denying the existence of the law of gravity would be absurd. I agree. That same principal applies to the existence of God and his laws.

The law that marriage is between a man and a woman is God's law. Man may enact a law that rejects the law of marriage. However, the law of marriage would continue to exist because man cannot change God's laws. Rejecting God's law of marriage would result in the withdrawal of his blessings based upon that law.

I'm thankful for the abundant blessings God has given us. For those blessings to continue for generations to come, we must support measures that align with God's laws. Be aware of anti-marriage and family measures proposed in other states. Share your beliefs by participating in discussions on marriage and family. Donate money, time, talent to proponents of marriage and family. Elect people who will support your beliefs on marriage and family. Protect future generations' blessings now. Stand up. Be counted on earth and in heaven as one who chooses God's laws.

Nice comparison except you can use this same comparison to support any statement about anything or anyone. For example you can use it to use it to support that "God encourages gay marriage and denying so would be like denying that we are acted upon by gravity,"or something to that effect.

Nicole

If you want to live in a country governed stricly by "Gods Law" Iran is a good place to start.

As far as I'm concerned we could use less religion in politics. We have enough Taliban here in Utah.

The difference here is that when you have to have a license to be married or the perform a marriage, it becomes a civil issue. So yes, Prop 8 is unconstitutional because Brown vs. The Board of Education made "separate but equal" unconstitutional.
Also, for all of you who are tithing to the LDS church, think of what that $40 million could have done in this world. Instead of keeping a group of people from having the same right you do, your church could have fed children, paid for their schooling, or given them shelter. Think about that for awhile.

Prop 8 was voted in by a majority of the people, in keeping with the Constitution. If it is your legal opinion that Prop 8 is unconstitutional, then challenge it in court. Simply complaining about it won't do any good, so you might as well stop.

As for the rest: The truth remains the truth, no matter how many believe it.

Power tripping people throughout history have used "God" as their front, and justification for their evil deeds. More people have been slaughtered over religion than any other single cause.

Mz. Call's irrational ramble reminds me of the line out of the old play about the Scopes Monkey trial (Inherit the Wind) wherein the character playing the Clarence Darrow role said: "God created man, and man being the gentleman that he is returned the favor"

Maybe this is why the Apostle Paul wrote in 1st Cor. "if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in church." 14:34-35

"God's Laws" ??

OK.

God says that eating shellfish is an "abomination."

When may we expect the government-led shutdown of all Red Lobster restaurants?

"God's Law" also demands the immediate execution of anyone who works on the Sabbath. BTW, that means SATURDAY. Firing squads, anyone?

“God's Law” also says disrespectful children must be killed. Heck, I was disrespectful to adults pretty consistently when I was in my adolescence. I grew out of it, but does that mean I’m a fugitive from justice?

“God’s Law” says anyone who doesn’t believe in Him must be put to death. My Hindu neighbor is a little upset by this. Who gets to walk up to Javaid’s house and tell him it’s time for him and his family to die? (Javaid’s a really sweet guy, but I know he owns a gun.)

Or there's the "God's Laws" forbidding women from wearing pants, or wearing cloth made of different fibers, or requiring that they remove themselves from society during their periods, or...

Wait a minute...

Maybe we could just admit that religion is a load of morally, historically and scientifically indefensible nonsense, that Voltaire was right when he observed that, "Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities," (remember 9/11?) and that basing a government on the ravings of Bronze Age mystics maybe isn't really such a good idea.

Ms. Call,

Please tell me how God’s laws have anything to do with our country’s laws? I’m going to go out on a limb and assume you’re LDS. Even if you’re not, the following analogy still works.

Let’s address the law of tithing. Given your argument, we should make tithing a legal requirement. Have the IRS track it, and throw anyone in jail that doesn’t pay. All the proceeds will of course go to the LDS church, because that’s where God intended it to go. The country and our prosperity will be further blessed because our government is forcing people to choose the right option… well not “forcing.” People would still have their free will, they would just be fined or imprisoned if they chose not to do the right thing. After all exercising your free agency sometimes has consequences. Here are a few other things I think should be made law.

Women can have only one ear ring hole in each ear. Nowhere else. Men can have none.
Tattoos are illegal
Coffee is illegal
Tea is illegal
Alcohol is illegal
Cigarettes are illegal
Any clothing being deemed “immodest” by the church is illegal
All establishments dealing with the exchange of money must be closed on Sundays (hospitals included)
Heavy necking of unmarried people (adults included) is illegal

Think about how wonderful all the extra blessings would be. Then again, we would also have to give up a lot of the freedoms so many people have fought and died for. But, blessings from your God (keep in mind, only 1% of the U.S. population actually believes in the LDS God).

OR

We could pass laws according to the CONSTITUTION of the United States! Whenever possible, the government doesn’t regulate behavior unless your behavior infringes on the constitutional rights of someone else. Take note: I said “constitutional” right, not “religious” right.
