It will measure interest in entrepreneurial, business center
MORGAN -- To measure interest in a proposed Morgan city and county entrepreneurial and business training center, Davis Applied Technology College is asking businesses and residents to complete a survey.
By June 10, the college hopes to have raw data measuring the feasibility of a business resource center meant to help both new and existing companies.
"I think the possibility is real," said Joey Skinner, a member of the Morgan County School Board and steering committee for the project.
"We're looking at applying for some government funding to help make it real. The survey will help us determine the interests of the local business owners and what their specialty-class needs are."
Along with Morgan city and county and the local school district, the DATC is working to formulate a strong economic development initiative for the area.
"It is an exciting opportunity for Morgan County." Skinner said. "The DATC has been extremely helpful in working with our local government entities to build an economic development plan, as well as to investigate the possibility of an entrepreneurial business incubator that would fit our needs. Providing appropriate education opportunities would go right along with that."
Depending on interest, the new center could provide business-related seminars, mentoring, and assistance with securing funding. It would also specialize in training in such skills as accounting, drafting, Web design, information technology, welding, machining, HVAC and small engine repair. Facilities could include office or shop space, basic business services and meeting/training rooms.
"We would intend to include business training, counseling, mentoring, and angel capital involvement, as well as providing various technology courses," according to a press release prepared by the DATC's Franciska Meacham.
The survey asks respondents about their interest in seminars such as business plan formation, QuickBooks accounting, spreadsheets, customer service, strategic planning, marketing plans, understanding financial statements, team building, financing, budgeting and forecasting, basic business law and market research.
Copies of the survey are available t the Morgan city office or online at www.datc.edu under the Davis Business Alliance link.
Surveys must be completed by June 10.
