strong>Businesswoman was chosen over 32 other applicants

OGDEN -- A local businesswoman and community volunteer has been tapped to lead the Ogden/Weber Convention Visitors Bureau.

Sara Toliver, 31, will begin her new position as the bureau's president and chief executive officer Nov. 13.

She was chosen by the bureau's board of trustees over 32 other applicants, said Mike Caldwell, who has been serving as the bureau's interim president.

She will be paid $65,000 annually, said Weber County Commissioner Craig Dearden.

Toliver said in a phone interview Monday she is looking forward to her new job.

"I'm incredibly excited about the opportunity," she said.

She will replace Shelleice Stokes, who was ousted in April as the bureau's president and chief executive officer. Stokes was earning about $80,000 when she left, Dearden said.

Toliver's business experience and community involvement should enable her to effectively lead the bureau, Caldwell said.

"Sara's good at bringing people together and is a great communicator," he said.

Brandon Peterson, chairman of the bureau's board of trustees, agrees that Toliver will be a good fit for the organization.

"A big thing is her incredible passion for the Ogden area," he said. "She obviously loves the place. We felt her community involvement and skills would translate into her being a good director."

Toliver, an Ogden native, has a bachelor's degree in business administration and marketing as well as an MBA, both from Utah State University.

She has served as vice president of the Historic 25th Street Business Association and as chairwoman of the annual Harvest Moon Celebration.

Toliver has also worked as vice president and media relations director for Chapelle Ltd., a publisher of how-to craft books based in Ogden. She has resigned from that position to concentrate on running the visitors and convention bureau, which has an annual budget of about $800,000 and six full-time employees.

She and her husband, Brett, are the parents of a 3-year-old son and daughter, who are twins.
