OGDEN -- The Ogden/Weber Convention and Visitors Bureau is moving forward with a marketing plan to brand the area as a premier affordable, accessible and authentic adventure destination.
"We are going to work very hard on our communication, not only outside the area, but in the community," said Sara Toliver, bureau president. "We feel it is important for the community to know what our office does and we want to encourage involvement."
The bureau's 2008 destination marketing plan was approved unanimously by the Weber County Commission on Tuesday morning.
Toliver, who has headed the organization since Nov. 12, said the plan is a fresh start for the new year.
"We have a lot of very exciting things on the horizon," she said.
Some of the events in the next few months include the Outdoor Retailer's Backcountry Base Camp demonstration and the inaugural XTERRA Winter World Championships at Snowbasin, and the Foursite Film Festival in Ogden. Such events will proceed along with established activities, such as the Ogden Marathon, the Sundance Film Festival and the Ogden Valley Balloon Festival.
Part of the branding will include a complete remodel of the bureau's Web site, www.ogden.travel, to include interactive features such as maps that can search for restaurants, ski resorts and lodging.
"It should be an incredibly useful tool for potential out-of-state visitors," Toliver said. "We want to make it more engaging than the current Web site."
The marketing plan also includes identifying new grant opportunities in order to receive more marketing dollars.
