OGDEN -- Ogden is one of the "Top 10 Places you've gotta go," according the January issue of Sunset Magazine.
Calling Ogden "one of the West's hottest adventure spots," and labeling it a place for adrenaline junkies, Sunset lists the area's plentiful snow and outdoor recreation opportunities as the main reasons to visit.
"Jackson, Wyoming, or Boulder, Colorado, might boast similar activities, but the prices and laid-back vibe in burgeoning Ogden can't be beat," the article says.
Sara Toliver, president of the Ogden-Weber Convention & Visitors Bureau, said that Ogden has been generating media buzz recently.
"We can really feel it here in our office from the number of inquiries and from comments at trade meetings," Toliver said.
She said she has had several comments at trade shows from people interested in visiting Ogden because of what they have read about the city and the surrounding area.
Toliver said Ogden is also featured in January's Ski Magazine as one of the "10 Next Best Places," and another article is planned for February's issue of Skiing.
"When you start reading about it in these national publications, it lends some credibility that we couldn't buy with advertising," she said.
Mayor Matthew Godfrey said he is pleased with the growing coverage of the city.
"It's been a pretty exciting trend for Ogden," Godfrey said. "This is exactly what we were hoping would happen, that we would be viewed by the outside world as the capital for outdoor high adventure."
Godfrey said he thinks such articles -- there have been about a dozen in the past year -- will bring more visitors, and their money, to the city.
"Tourism is a critical part of our economy that has been missing for a very long time," he said.
Part of the new interest in Ogden is a revitalized downtown, Godfrey said, with restaurants, movie theaters and the Salomon Center.
"If downtown is a cool, fun, vibrant place, then people will want to stay there," he said, "and ski at our incredible resorts."
