Networking and some fun for 2008 annual event
By JEFF DEMOSSOGDEN -- The Top of Utah Business Expo's primary function is to help local businesses grow through networking, but some may take the opportunity to compete in office olympics, negotiate a Segway course or even take a shot at dunking a county commissioner.
The Ogden/Weber Chamber of Commerce's annual expo, scheduled for Wednesday at the Golden Spike Event Center, has grown progressively larger over the years.
The expo has been held intermittently over the years, but has been an annual event since 2005.
This year's expo will feature about 100 exhibitors ranging from manufacturers to marketing firms.
"We're impressed with the diversity this year," Chamber President Dave Hardman said. "Some aren't participating this year because of tight budgets, but overall, we feel the response has been very strong."
The expo, which runs from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, is free and open to the public.
Attendees can bring documents to be shredded by Shred Masters from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by bicycle demonstrations from Bingham Cyclery at 11 a.m.
Afternoon events include office olympics, a frozen T-shirt contest (not as racy as it sounds) and Segway demonstrations.
Also, Hardman and Weber County Commissioner Craig Dearden will spend some time in a dunk tank in an effort to raise money for charity.
Aside from the entertainment scheduled, Hardman said, the expo offers local businesses a real opportunity to grow.
"The most important thing is the opportunity for them to network with businesses in the community that can benefit their business and create partnerships."
